Biography Project: the beginning

Merce Cunningham. April 16, 1919 – July 26, 2009

For a biography project in my FA 351, we must research their lives and complete an imaginary collaboration with them. I just started looking into Cunningham's life via wikipedia, a few things initially caught my interest. The fact that he was born in Centralia, Washington gives me a natural sense of state pride, I was born just 30 minutes south of Centralia. I also have a deep interest in dance, Cunningham was a successful dancer and choreographer. Another thing that I found very interesting was his secret homosexual relationship with pianist John Cage, which was very controversial because John Cage was in a married.
I just got his biography The Modernizing of Modern Dance by Roger Copeland and I also heard from my art instructor that someone in the Washington State University Fine Arts department has had direct contact with Cunningham. Hopefully with these sources I can dive deep into the brain of Mr. Cunningham.
